In 1914, the UVF Protestant militia smuggled more than 25,000 rifles into Ulster to take on the Catholics. And 3 million(!) rounds of ammunition. Given the nature of those times, makes Sunni vs Shia look like child's play.
I am no apologist for ANY terrorism but I do also find it a bit rum that "we" are now so moralistic when "we" also waged a civil war on religious divides that went on for nearly 100 years!
That's all.

You're quoting from 100 years ago though geoff and they are all nutty Irish tribes.
My dad was from Cork so I know what he felt about the "English" but he came over as a 14 year old runaway and joined the British army to fight in the 2nd WW while Eire stayed out of it. He fought alongside Protestants and Catholics alike.
Religion was the excuse imho. It was about a free Ireland as Southern Ireland was given independence back 100 years or so and the Northern 6 counties decided to remain in the UK. Catholic v Protestant was a side issue imho.

Fair enough Wiltell. My family-line (way back) is also Irish - hence my self-mocking username.(before that, my lineage is Catholic Spanish.)
Islam is some 700 years younger a belief-system/doctrine than Christianity. It's hardly a surprise they're still at each others' throats. "We" have been there, done it, got a fucking gold medal for "terror". Finally, we grew up.
Enlightenment and respect will eventually come to the Muslim world, I hope. I won't be around to see it.

Agreed pikey. Eventually by 2nd and 3rd generations Muslims will for the most part change to seeing Mohammed for what he was as long as the UK stays a free country...

Agree with Brenty.
Radical islam seems to be growing, even among 2nd and third generation muslims.
Muslim converts seem to be the most likely group in uk to be radicalised.

Well of course Islam is growing but not all Muslims are terrorists although virtually all terrorists are Muslims.
I personally would just ban all specialist religious education and just have it as a part of history lessons. It's time that could be spent educating pupils on good citizenship...

My posts were quite simple to understand 13BR. It is growing as the Muslim population expands quicker than the indigenous population from immigration and large state supported families.
Most Muslims will grow up in UK and experience that Christians and Atheists aren't so bad. They will see that Mohammed was not so much a prophet as he was a clever cult leader getting his armies to follow him through tribal warfare by using the name of god.
Believing in god is not the problem as long as you realise that god is not actually wanting you to chop off the heads of non-believers or make women slaves.

Your posts are not simple though as you are contradicting yourself. You seem to think Mohamed is responsible for radicalisation and expect to Muslims to turn away from him whilst the religion keeps on growing.
Exactly how will that happen?
